Iraq is transferring its Satellite Project to International Companies

On Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Communications has announced its objective to transfer the Iraqi satellite project to international investment companies. The ministry is also coordinating with the French company Airbus to train technicians and specialists of the Ministry to grant them a license to establish satellites in the future. The senior agent for technical affairs of the ministry, Amir Bayati said in a press statement that the ministry is looking to present the Iraqi satellite project to international investment companies. Bayati pointed out that the matter will be pursued with the International Telecommunication Union to maintain the orbits of the Iraqi satellite.

Bayati added that in the same context, a workshop was held with the French company Airbus to train technicians and specialists of the ministry to work on completing the remaining phases of the project. The project was stopped in 2014 due to a lack of financial allocations. He stressed that the project will serve several aspects represented by the agricultural sector, industrial, Sectors that serve the security side in the country. Al-Bayati said that his ministry has taken several measures in the field of the satellite industry, including the establishment of a nucleus of the Iraqi space agency.

It would provide services to Iraqi government institutions and sectors. He pointed out that the French company Airbus an integrated presentation of the project was discussed the mechanism of development of orbits of Iraq on orbits 65.45 orbit slot and 50 degrees east. The commercial and technical coordination took place with Airbus for the possibility of training technicians and specialists for one year. It will qualify them and grant them a license to work in the long term for the establishment of satellites and high and medium orbits.
